You must be running a spell check for me or probably wincing from pains in your ribs.
These are just two out of over one hundred test scripts I had the privilege of scoring. It was really interesting and I must admit very funny at first but I became deeply concerned as more of such baffling answers to simple questions increased in number. We are recruiting females from higher institutions of learning on to a program that is geared towards achieving millennium development goal 3 “Women Empowerment and Gender Equality” and increasing the awareness and participation of females in ICT.
These queer answers came from females who are final year students, studying for a Nigerian Certificate in Education, who would later teach my children. WHAT?!!!
As a matter of urgency we must join the work force ready to carry out strategic action plans to ensure knowledge impartation at the grass root level and I mean at an early stage which is fundamental to the growth of any nation.
We are running out of time and there are tons of goals to be achieved. Lets educate ourselves and help others become aware. Let us educate our political leaders, community, workplace, church, non-profits and ask them to get involved. You would do well to donate ideas, time and resources to reputable organizations. If you decline your child may not complete a full course of sound primary education.
How do I know you feel the same way as me?

Good work my dear. Please share this as much as you can. Our education sector has grown dysfunctional. The bad English is a huge scandal on it's own, it's even available in Aso Villa! God help us! Good work!
ReplyDeleteI am happy to know Sir that you can feel my pain. God truly help us. God Save Nigeria!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis long standing issue of grammatical blunders and the brutal murder of the English language, all because "English is not my mother tongue" just has to be trashed out. Necessary and pragmatic steps have to be taken in our primary and secondary schools to curb this embarrassing nuisance.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile B, have fun marking the scripts!
Kelechi, you are on point. Some people think we all need to have some patience and understanding in communication. Very true, but for how long.
ReplyDeleteWhen the cry the nose also cry. Anybody who is a true Nigerian, who want a better future for our children must i repeat must be concerned regarding this issue. An urgent attention should be given to education in this country from the nursery to the highest level of education. This score or pass as you pay must stop.
